A house fire in Alto on the Banks County side of the border with Habersham County is destroyed by fire over the weekend, with several household pets perishing in the blaze.

Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols says in a press release they were called to the 400 block of Whippoorwill Way, which is at the Apple Pie Ridge development, Sunday after 2:20 p.m. for the structure fire call.  Upon arrival, BCFS units found a single-family residence well involved with fire.

The home sustained heavy damage and is listed as a total loss. No injuries were reported but several family pets were lost in the fire, according to the release. Nichols added that the incident is under investigation by The Georgia State Fire Marshalls Office and is on-going. The occupants were not at home at the time of the fire.

City of Baldwin, Habersham County, City of Cornelia, LACI, and Jackson County CI Fire Departments assisted in the operation.
