For a weekend slate, Friday's soccer schedule is light by most comparisons. But it figures to pack a huge punch, as two monster region showdowns between ranked teams and several more key region matchups between teams with playoff aspirations will highlight the night.
On the boy's side, Class 3A fourth-ranked Chestatee (5-1, 1-0 Region 6-3A) travels ninth-ranked private GAC (4-2, 2-0 Region 6-3A) in a battle of ranked, unbeaten teams in Region 6-3A.
On the girl's side, Class 3A No. 1 Jefferson (4-2, 0-0 Region 8-3A) hosts No. 7 Cherokee Bluff (3-3, 0-0 Region 8-3A) in Region 8-3A. The Lady Bears have been playing without star player Bristol Kersh, who should be back after helping lead the Bluff girls basketball team to a state title on Wednesday. The Lady Dragons had their 4-match win snapped on Tuesday by Class 5A Loganville.
Also, in Region 8-3A, East Hall travels to West Hall in a key game right off the bat to open up both teams' region play. The Vikings (2-4, 0-0 Region 8-3A) have lost three games by 1-goal in the early going, two to top 5 ranked teams. The Spartans (2-3, 0-0 Region 8-3A) have a win over Chestatee, and two of their losses have been to Class 6A teams.
The No. 4 Buford girls will be in action in Region 8-6A while both Habersham Central and Jackson County will be on the road in the key Region 8-5A matchups.
