11-year-old boy suffers traumatic injuries after crash near Gillsville

A boy from Homer suffered traumatic injuries in a Monday afternoon crash between a vehicle and a motorcycle near Gillsville.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said their Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene at around 5:45 p.m. 

According to the investigation, Dylan Reems, 11, was riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by his father, Michael Christopher Reems, 37, of Homer.

The motorcycle was driving south on Gillsville Highway proceeding toward F. Gilmer Road when a 2019 Dodge Charger traveling north on Gillsville Highway crossed the centerline and hit the motorcycle.

HCSO said the driver, Carlos Jermaine Sims, 45, of Lula, remained at the scene after the crash.

Dylan Reems was flown to Scottish Rite Hospital – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. The drivers of the vehicles were not injured.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
