Barrow County Solicitor General Kyle Sharry resigned on Wednesday.

According to Barrow County, he cited “a desire to return to his private law practice.”

Sharry’s private practice, Massey & Sharry, LLP, was reached out to for a statement from Sharry but have not commented as of yet.

Sharry was appointed to the position in December of 2020 by Governor Brian Kemp. Sharry was previously part-time before the Barrow County Board of Commissioners made him full-time at a Feb. 25 meeting.

According to District 4 Commissioner Alex Ward, this decision was reached without the legislative approval required by Georgia code because it was a temporary supplement. Ward said they retroactively made Sharry full-time from the beginning of February and Sharry told Ward he was working on getting referrals for his private firm clients.

According to Board of Commissioner documents, the move bumped Sharry’s pay from roughly $54,000 to $120,000-per-year and was funded due to a recently vacant full-time position.

Sharry submitted his resignation to Kemp Wednesday. If accepted, the statewide Judicial Nominating Commission will begin selecting Sharry’s successor.
