Forsyth officials are reporting that a sewer spill occurred in the northern part of the county on Thursday.

The spill reportedly occurred at around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday in an isolated area in the woods of the Parkstone community.

It occurred when a gasket failed on an air release valve on the sewer force main line.

Officials estimate that roughly 1,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Cogburn Creek.

The ground affected by the spill was treated and a sign was posted in the area.

Forsyth County said they are taking all necessary precautions and complying with Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division’s (EPD’s) guidelines.

The Georgia EPD was notified just after 10 p.m. on Thursday.
