BETHLEHEM, Ga. — Jackson County’s bid for the final playoff spot in Region 8-5A came to an end Friday.
The Panthers could not hold an early lead as Apalachee rallied for a 4-3 victory in a one-game playoff for the No. 4 seed in the upcoming state tournament.
The two teams finished tied at the end of the regular season.
Jackson County jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly and an error. But the Wildcats answered in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs after two were out to take the lead.
The Panthers tied the game in the fourth on a RBI double from Colin Price but Apalachee again responded, scoring an unearned run in the fifth to reclaim the lead.
Wildcat pitching retired the final 10 Jackson County batters to seal the win.
