Fire damages Cumming church

CUMMING - Damage to a Cumming church is described as "extensive" following a Christmas Eve fire.

It happened at Saint Brendan's Catholic Church and started as a chimney fire, according to Rev. Willie Hickey, one of two priests who lived in the church complex.

Rev. Hickey tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution it spread to the attic, across the back of the church and into one bedroom.

The rectory is one of the areas that was damaged ina ddition to the living quarters for Father Hickey and Father Ed Daneker.
