GAINESVILLE - Hall County Parks and Leisure Services has closed on the purchase of property bordering East Hall Road, between East Hall High and Middle schools.
The 90-acre site will be developed as a public park, with ball fields, tennis courts, playground, walking trails, picnic shelters and restroom facilities.
Carey Wright, director of parks and leisure services for the county, said bid letting for master-plan development of the two million dollar project will begin soon. Construction should begin in Spring 2003.
Wright said the county has been looking for a site for a new park in the East Hall area for some time.
"We've been looking at this property and some other properties in that particular area that would suit our needs and be sort of centrally located."
Purchased from the Roark family for $7,000 per acre, the partially wooded site is bordered by a stream and divided by P. Davidson Road.
Acquisition of the land and its subsequent development are financed through recreation funds included in SPLOST IV, approved by voters in March 1999.
