Commerce school board pay hike in the works

By by Ken Stanford
COMMERCE - Members of the Commerce Board of Education have joined their counterparts on the Jefferson school board in seeking a doubling of their salaries.

They have asked State Representative Pat Bell to introduce local legislation to that effect, and are seeking an increase of $50-per-meeting to $100-per-meeting.

The Jackson Herald quotes Commerce board chairman Steve Perry as saying his group's action was inspired by the request from the Jefferson school board - which is still pending.

The Jefferson proposal, unlike the one from Commerce, calls for the chairman to make an additional $50-per-meeting for a total fo $150 each session.
