GAINESVILLE - Centennial Elementary School in Gainesville is the recipient of a $912,000 Reads Grant.
Principal Shirley Whitaker got the word Thursday.
"We worked very hard, very hard," Whitaker said. "Lots of community people are involved with us in the grant."
"We want to (use the funds) to insure that the children are reading on their level so that they can improve quickly. We're allowed money for summer programs so that children who are behind can receive enrichment."
Whitaker says the money comes from the federal government through the state Department of Education and will be used for reading enrichment programs at Centennial over the next two years.
The Centennial grant is part of a $45 million grant approved for the state of Georgia.
