GAINESVILLE - A powerful thunderstorm that roared through Gainesville Monday afternoon resulted in minor street flooding, traffic delays, and at least one downed tree.
The tree that was toppled by the storm partially blocked one lane of Dawsonville Highway near Pearl Nix Parkway.
Also, during the storm, utility lines fell across a school bus in the city, but there were no injuries or major problems associated with that.
There were some brief power outages associated with the storm which hit about 3:30 shortly after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Hall and several adjacent counties. A severe thunderstorm watch, which had been issued earlier in the afternoon, was still in effect at the time.
The torrential rains, which greatly reduced visibility at the height of the storm, were accompanied by strong, gusty winds.
The storm left behind .54 inch of rain.
