JEFFERSON - Students and teachers returend to the classroom Thursday in two northeast Georgia school systems: the city of Jefferson and Jackson County. <br>

They are the first systems in the area to open their doors for the 2002-2003 school year.<br>
<br>
Next will come Towns and Barrow county schools and the Commerce City School System. Classes begin for those students August 7.<br>
<br>
Classes resume in the Franklin, Gilmer, and Stephens county systems August 8, which will be the first day for the Buford City School System.<br>
<br>
August 9 is the big day for schools in the area. <br>
<br>
School house doors will open in Banks, Dawson, Elbert, Fannin, Hall, Habersham, Madison, Rabun, and White counties, and the city of Gainesville.<br>
<br>
The new school year begins August 12 for Forsyth and Gwinnett county students. <br>
<br>
Union County will begin August 16, Pickens County August 19, and Hart County will open on August 26, which was delayed from August 12 because of school construction.<br>
<br>
Lumpkin doesn't begin the new school year until September 3.
