GAINESVILLE - Hall County Commissioners learned Tuesday that ground will not be broken on the Highway 365 corridor sewage expansion until next year.
Gainesville and Hall County officials had hoped the groundbreaking would happen this year but that appears to have changed. Hall was planning on enough Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenue to pay cash for the project.
A downturn in the economy resulted in a shortfall, however, and now the county is seeking a loan from GEFA, the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority. That, officials say, will take time.
Hall County has agreed to buy sewer capacity from Gainesville, and Gainesville has agreed to run lines, paid for by the county, through the corridor.
