ATLANTA - State agriculture officials are investigating reports of abused horses in several counties including Fannin in our area where 20 starving and one dead horse were reportedly found.
One official at the state's Equine Critical Care Center in DeKalb County tells Channel 2 Action News "it just makes you sick" to see the conditon of some of the animals.
The agriculture department says its seeing an alarming increase in the number of abused horses around the state. Department Commissioner Tommy Irvin says in many cases people get a horse or horses and it turns out to be more than they can afford.
