ATLANTA - The State Transportation Board Thursday confirmed Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl's choice for Deputy Commissioner.

Larry E. Dent of Gainesville, GDOT District Engineer in Gainesville the past four years, was named as the new Georgia DOT Deputy Commissioner.

Dent, who has been with the Department for 32 years, will assume his new duties effective immediately.

During his career with the Georgia DOT, he has worked in several positions including the project engineer for the reconstruction of the Brookwood Interchange in Downtown Atlanta where Interstates 75 and 85 merge. He has also served as the District Maintenance Engineer in the Gainesville District. In 1999, Dent was named the District Engineer for the Gainesville District where he was responsible for all operations of the Department of Transportation within the 21-county area in northeast Georgia.

"I am excited about meeting the challenges this new position will bring," Dent said. "I look forward to working with Commissioner Linnenkohl, the Transportation Board and Governor Perdue to work towards solutions for Georgia's transportation needs."

As Deputy Commissioner, Dent will supervise almost 6,000 employees and an annual budget of approximately $1.6 billion. He replaces Harold Linnenkohl, who was recently selected as the new DOT Commissioner.
