GAINESVILLE - Gainesville High football coach Bruce Miller was anxious to see what his offense could do.
After Friday night's 56-6 demolition of White County by the Red Elephants, everyone at Bobby Gruhn Stadium at City Park got an impressive glimpse after what to expect.
Gainesville (1-0, 1-0 in Region 7-AAA) piled 541 yards rushing, highlighted by a 71-yard run by Cedric Langston on its first play from scrimmage.
"I wanted to see what they could do and I got a good look at them and I like what I see so far," he said after the game. "We moved the ball, made some big plays. And the defense just played great. It was a total team effort."
After Gainesville stopped the Warriors (0-1, 0-1) on their next possession John Castleberry scored from 7-yards out to make it 14-0. The Elephants would run the lead to 43-0 by halftime.
The Warriors got their only score in the third quarter on a disputed 18-yard TD pass from Nick Winters to Roshaad Norman to make it 43-6.
Langston finished with 111 yards on 6 carries and Joseph Maheffey had 140 yards on 8 rushes.
Gainesville will travel to arch-rival East Hall, who beat Chestatee Friday night 13-9, next week.
White County will play host to North Hall, which whipped Flowery Branch Friday night.
