JEFFERSON - Jackson EMC (JEMC) reported scattered power outages overnight in Madison, Jackson and Hall counties, as well as a number of larger circuit outages.

Spokeswoman Bonnie Jones says nearly 6,000 customers were affected - and the problem was "trees on lines," ice-laden trees and tree limbs falling across power lines.

Jones said the breakdown, by district, is as follows:

>Jefferson District (Jackson, Barrow and Banks Counties)- A circuit was lost out of the Lavender Road substation, northwest of Athens, at 9:30 p.m., disrupting service to more than 540 customers. Service was restored at 10:42 p.m.

>A circuit was lost out of the Russell substation, east of Winder, at 10 p.m., disrupting service to more than 1,560 customers. Service was restored at 11:12 p.m.

>A circuit was lost of the Goldkist substation, south of Commerce, at 6 a.m. disrupting service to more than 1,640 customers, including the East Jackson Elementary and Middle Schools. Service was restored at 7:37 a.m.

>Two circuits were lost out of the Center substation in SE Jackson County, at 6:07 a.m., disrupting service to Benton Elementary School in Nicholson as well as more than 1,000 other customers. Service was restored at 8:27.

Neese District (Clarke, Madison and Franklin Counties)- A circuit was lost out of the Pocotaligo substation, north of Ila, at 9:30 p.m., disrupting service to more than 860 customers. Service was restored at 1:00 a.m.

Elsewhere in the Jackson EMC service area, including Hall County, according to Jones, there were only scattered outages.
