Clint Smith to run for State Senate

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Clint Smith of Gainesville says he has decided which state legislative seat to run for as he seeks a return to the Georgia General Assembly.

Smith, a Republican, who said in September he intended to run for a state legislative seat this year, says he's decided to seek the State Senate post now held by Democrat Carol Jackson of Cleveland.

Smith served eight years in the House before reapportionment put him in the same district with Amos Amerson of Dahlonega. He lost to Amerson in the 2002 election.

Smith says his campaign will center on more local control of education, more respect for the rights of property owners, tax relief, and the faith-based initiative, among other things.
