Time running out to apply for Hurricane Ivan aid

ATlANTA - Time is running out for people in several Northeast Georgia counties if they intend to apply for assistance because of damage caused by Hurricane Ivan.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says people who suffered damage to their homes or businesses in the counties declared federal disaster areas have until Wednesday November 17 to apply.

In our area, those counties are: Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Gilmer, and Madison. Also, Pickens, Rabun, Towns, Union and White. Other counties included in the declaration are: Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dade, DeKalb, Early, Fulton, and Miller.

To apply, call 1-800-621-3362, 6 a.m.-midnight, EST, seven days a week. Individuals can also apply and find recovery information on the FEMA Web site. (See link below.)

FEMA says individual assistance for victims of Ivan in Georgia has reached nearly $3 million, including $2,287,931 for housing assistance and $711,237 for other-needs assistance. The agency says 2,316 individuals have registered for Hurricane Ivan disaster assistance in the state and FEMA inspectors have completed 1,551 inspections of damaged homes.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued 1,802 low-interest loan applications (1,490 to homeowners and renters, and 312 to businesses) and has approved $1,601,400 in low-interest loans to homeowners, renters and businesses .
