Brief chase leads to arrest of Gainesville man

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man faces a number of charges following a brief chase with police early Sunday on the city's southside.

Lt. Brian Kelly of the Gainesville Police Department says the incident unfolded after officers tried to stop Darvis Donquan Bledson's van on Old Athens Highway about 3:00.

Lt. Kelly says Bledson did not stop and turned down Brown Street but stopped the vehicle at the Garden Drive intersection, jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. Kelly says a brief ground search of the area turned up no sign of Bledson but he was arrested about an hour later.

He says Bledson was arrested without further incident in a car that was stopped by police.

Bledson is charged with a tag light violation, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding an officer, and obstruction of an officer.
