IRS workers bring holiday cheer to Gainesville family

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville family is receiving gifts from a unique donor this Christmas: the IRS.

Internal Revenue Service employees in the Gainesville office teamed up with the State of Georgia program "Children with Special Needs" as a way of contributing to the local community, according to IRS spokesman Eric Erickson.

The family adopted by the workers includes three children being raised by their grandmother. Erickson said the youngest child is nine months old and suffers from a serious illness called neurofibromatosis - a set of genetic disorders which cause tumors to grow along various types of nerves and can also lead to developmental abnormalities, including learning disabilities. The other two children in the household are ages 11 and 3 months.

"It is a wonderful blessing and privilege to be able to give during this holiday season," said Gainesville IRS employee Ronnie Morrow.

Erickson said over the course of two weeks, thirteen IRS employees donated enough gifts to ensure their adopted family will have a joyous holiday season. He said they donated everything from food and diapers to shoes and clothes...and even some of the year's most sought after toys.
