Icy spots reported on some Gainesville area roads

GAINESVILLE - Road crews were called out during the night to deal with isolated icy spots on roads in the Gainesville area.

Temperatures plunged rapidly after Thursday morning's heavy rains ended and were in the upper 20s in Gainesville as daybreak approached Friday. That was a drop of about 30 degrees in 24 hours.

There were no major problems reported by the ice in the Gainesville area, but icy roads were a real problem in parts of metro Atlanta overnight, especially Cobb County.

Temperatures are expected to remain the 30s Friday before dropping to the upper 20s again overnight. Christmas Day should be a bit warmer, with the mercury climbing to around 40.
