Gainesville Rotary Club names Man and Woman of the Year

GAINESVILLE - Judge William L. Norton, Jr., is this year's Gainesville Rotary Club "Man of the Year" and Martha Painter is the "Woman of the Year."

The awards were presented at a banquet Monday night.

Judge Norton was described as a "very active environmentalist and historic preservationist." He is a founding member of the Hall County Historical Society and a founding director of the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, among other things.

Painter's community involvement incudes United Way, the Elks Club home for girls, and work with the homeless. She's also very active in her church, First United Methodist.

Also Monday night, Don Carter was presented with the Sidney O. Smith Fellowship Award. That award annually goes to the Rotarian who best exemplifies what Rotary is all about through service to the club and attendance.
