GAINESVILLE - The state Board of Pardons and Paroles has once again denied parole to Larry Joe Faulkner, who is serving a life sentence for a Hall County murder.

This is the second time the board has denied the 59-year-old Faulkner parole since he was sentenced in 1989 for the murder of 30-year-old Thomas Carter.

In February 1989, Faulkner was convicted of aggravated assault and raping is wife at gunpoint in the couple's home and in front of their two children.

About eight months later, Faulkner went to the new home of his estranged wife, who was now living with Thomas Carter. Faulkner shot Carter in the hand with a .44 magnum pistol and then shot him in the back as he fell, killing him.

Faulkner was convicted of murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Parole Board Vice Chairman Garland Hunt said parole was denied because of the brutal nature of the crime.

"This man took another person's life out of jealously and rage," Hunt said. Hunt also noted that Faulkner had several convictionis for violent crimes dating back to 1969.

Faulkner is currently serving his sentence at Rutledge State Prison in Columbus.
