Holiday traditions return to Gainesville

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Two more Gainesville holiday traditions return next weekend: "Christmas on Green Street" and the multi-cultural service at First United Methodist Church. Both will be held on Sunday.

"Christmas on Green Street" will be held from 5:00-7:30. This annual event, sponsored by the Hall County Historical Society, will include carolers, jugglers, buggy rides and luminaries all along beautifully decorated Green Street. Promptly at 5:00, the Antique Auto Processional is scheduled along Green Street and will include Santa arriving on a vintage fire truck. The Gainesville Rotary Tree-lighting Ceremony will begin at 6:00. The Northeast Georgia History Center will be serving roasted marshmallows at the Whitepath Cabin. Chestatee High School will be selling refreshments to help raise money for their upcoming trip to the Cotton Bowl.

The Methodist church service last year featured traditional carols, up beat Contemporary Christian music, ringing bells, a Latino guitar and a mass choir. This will be the ninth year for the Christmas Is One Language concert, which began with the desire nine years ago to bring all of Gainesville's cultures together for the season.

And, next Monday, another Gainesville holiday tradition is planned: the lighting of the Lovelight Treet at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
