Changes planned for Northeast Georgia History Center

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Volunteers will play a more prominent role in managing the Northeast Georgia History Center next year. The board of directors has decided to delay employing a full-time Director to replace Bob Winebarger who resigned earlier this year, according to the History Center newsletter, Now You Know.

Beginning Jan. 1, Steve Gurr and Ken Wallace, who have shared the Director's role since May, when Winebarger resigned, will limit their paid time to two days per week. Their reduced responsibilities will be divided between five new vice-presidents.

Lauri Quick and Jan Mundy will continue as part-time employees. In addition, Christie Gregory, a professional graphic artist, has been employed on a retainer basis. Gregory was responsible for the 1950s panel exhibit, and will be involved in the marketing efforts for the history center plus on-going additions to the exhibit galleries.

A new committee with a History Center outreach - "Guild for Written and Oral History" - will be chaired by Gordon Sawyer and Scott Fugate. Its mission is to include more of Northeast Georgia's history in documented form.

The 2006 officers are John Jacobs, Jr., President; Fleming Weaver, VP Facilities; Anne Chenault, VP Administration; Jack Prince, VP Membership & Development; Marvin Locey, VP Exhibits & Programs; Carolyn Jacobs, VP Special Events; Cleda Locey, Secretary; Bob Johnson, Treasurer; and, Martha Nesbitt, President-elect.
