Oakwood Marine still 'critical'

By by Ken Stanford
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - As of Monday morning, there was no reported change in the condition of a 19-year-old Marine from Oakwood who was critically injured in Iraq.

Ronnie Edge, who is Matthew Turner's stepfather, told the Georgia News Network "I really don't know how long it's going to (take) for his lungs to heal and, like I said, he's still on the respirator."

Turner, who graduated from West Hall High School in 2003, suffered severe burns to his lungs after inhaling fumes from an explosion. He also suffered some facial burns.

Edge said the family is holding up as well as can be expected.

"(We're) facing it as well as anybody could," he said. "It's hard for any parent to see their child (in that condition). You can only imagine."

Turner is hospitalized in the burn unit at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
