GAINESVILLE - The hemlock woolly adelgid - a destructive insect that feeds on the Eastern hemlock tree - is attacking more than 14,000 acres of the Chattahoochee National Forest in northeast Georgia.
Forest Service spokesperson Karen McKenzie says they are currently working on a plan to combat the pesky insect.
"The draft document will come out in March," McKenzie says. "Conceivably, actions and activities could take place as early as April or May."
The plan has either predator beetles being introduced into the area or spraying the trees with a soapy substance to kill the insects.
