GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says the end is in sight for the widening of McEver Road Extension west of Gainesville.
GDOT District Engineer Russell McMurry says as the work draws to a close a traffic shift will be put in place next Thursday, if weather permits.
McMurry says traffic will shift and will be split utilizing three of four lanes of McEver between Brown's Bridge Road and Dawsonville Highway.
"This traffic shift is one of the last stages of construction," explained McMurry. "Both lanes toward State Route 369 (Brown's Bridge Road) will be open for use Thursday. Only one lane toward State Route 53/Dawsonville Highway will be open for use Thursday. We still have a couple of days work to be completely finished with the southbound lanes. The asphalt topping has to be laid and then we will complete the striping. If weather allows, all that will be finished within a couple of days and we will be out of the way..."
Construction on the 2.05-mile, $8.2 million project began in January 2003.
