GAINESVILLE - Longstreet Bridge, north of Gainesville, which has been undergoing reconstruction for several months, will be closed all weekend - and state transportation officials say work on the span is now about 50 percent complete.
The bridge will close at 9:00 Friday night and will not reopen until 5:00 Monday morning, according to Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) District Engineer Russell McMurry.
"The next step...is the joint rehabilitation. We must ensure each new section of the bridge fits together snugly and that requires a long work window so that means weekend work," McMurry explains. "This is the only weekend closure for Longstreet Bridge but work will continue nightly as we complete the reconstruction of the Longstreet Bridge."
