Moratorium on new subdivisions in Baldwin

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The Baldwin City Council has voted to place a six-month moratorium on new subdivisions, pending a revision of the city's 26-year-old zoning ordinance and subdivision regulations.

According to the Gainesville-based Norton Agency's Native Itelligence, the council gave two other reaons for the move: controlling the type of growth in Baldwin and the higher cost of providing services for homes as opposed to businesses.

The council has met with various planning groups, including the Department of Consumer Affairs, to get a feel for what other cities are doing and how such ideas may be implemented.
