Sprinkler douses Oakwood fire

OAKWOOD - Damage was minimal to an apartment in Oakwood after a sprinkler system extinguished a kitchen Thursday morning.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said it happened about 8:30 at Oakcrest Apartments.

Cagle says when the first units arrived they saw no signs of a fire but found the unit filled with smoke. Cagle says the sprinkler system had put the fire out. He says there was no fire damage but there was smoke and water damage to the apartment. The occupant, Cagle said, had apparently briefly left the apartment, leaving some food cooking on the stove.
