Cartoonists to convene at GSC

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Cartoonists from around the southeast will hold their annual convention in Gainesville next month but you can already see a display of their work at Gainesville State College.

GSC's Roy C. Moore Art Gallery is hosting the National Cartoonist Society/S.E. Chapter's Annual Convention and Exhibit through Nov. 8.

The National Cartoonist Society/S.E. Chapter's Exhibit is on display in the gallery. It features a selection of members' works. All genres are represented - newspaper editorial, newspaper comic strip, comic book, web comic artists, magazine, Cartoon Network folks, advertising cartoonists, etc.

Headquarters will be the Lanier Centre Best Western. GSC will be the site of a reception on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 11:00-4:00, at which the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist, Mike Luckovich, and Schulz Associates' Director, Paige Braddock, will give lectures.

Up to 40 people expected from Virginia , North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. This is the first time the group has met in Gainesville, but not the first convention in northeast Georgia. A meeting a few years ago was held in Dahlonega.

For more information about this free exhibit, please contact GSC Gallery Director John Amoss at 770-718-3697 or email [email protected].
