Red Rabbit improvements slated

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville/Hall County's Red Rabbit is in line for new buses and new bus stop shelters with money from a $335,000 dollar state Department of Transportation grant.

Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss told City Council the new shelters are on main bus routes.

"They will be at the main stops around major arteries in the city, Jesse Jewell Parkway, Browns Bridge Road and a variety of other places where we have a large number of riders," Moss said. "The shelters are very beautiful, they have Victorian cut glass, and they'll just be something incredibly attractive."

Moss added the three new buses are slightly shorter to safely turn on smaller roads but will seat the same number of people.

She also says the system has seen a 17 percent increase in ridership in the past year.
