Hall schools win statewide honors

By by Jerry Gunn
GAINESVILLE - Hall County School Superintendent Will Schofield said Monday night that state recognition shows system improvement in meeting accountability guidelines.

Six schools are on this year's award list for meeting or exceeding federally mandated Average Yearly Progress guidelines under the "No Child Left Behind' Act.

"What this symbolizes is I hope what we see in the future is 100 percent of our students participating in rigorous activities every day, the lists will take care of themselves," Schofield said.

The schools were designated 2006 single statewide accountability system award winners.

C.W. Davis Middle School was a silver award winner; Flowery Branch High School received a platinum award; Johnson High won a gold award; Riverbend Elementary and West Hall High each won silver and North Hall High won platinum and silver.

TOP FINANCE OFFICER

The School Board recognized Deputy School Superintendent Lee Lovett as the best school finance officer in Georgia.

Superintendent Will Schofield said he is trying to talk Lovett out of retiring after 42 years in education, 35 of them in Hall County.

"His main function is finance, he's been plugging those kind of holes for us for 35 years and I hope I can talk him into 35 more," Schofield said.

Lovett recently received the Outstanding School Business Officials Award from the Georgia Association of School Business Officials.
