ATLANTA - A Jackson County murder conviction has been affirmed by the Georgia Supreme Court.

Kenneth Augustus Mills was convicted in April 2002 in Jefferson by a Jackson County in the death of Christopher Robertson in December 2001.

Robertson died and his wife and three children were injured when Mills rammed their pickup with his van on I-85 in Jackson County, causing the truck to wreck.

Mills was sentenced to life-plus-15 years.

According to evidence cited in the high court's unanimous ruling, the Robertsons were on their way to North Carolina where their eldest child was about to begin college. According to the testimony of two members of the Robertson family, two eyewitnesses in another vehicle, and an expert in the field of accident reconstruction, a white van, driven by Mills, came into Mr. Robertson's lane, forcing his vehicle off the interstate.

The van continued to strike the pickup as Robertson tried to avoid it but eventually the truck was T-boned by the van and overturned several times. Robertson died at the scene; Mills left the scene and was arrested later.
