Wednesday afternoon wreck slows Gainesville traffic

GAINESVILLE - A mid afternoon collision between a car and a pick-up truck at the intersection of John Morrow Parkway and Washington Street slowed traffic to a crawl Wednesday afternoon.

Vehicles backed up on John Morrow and Washington as police and fire fighters worked to remove the victims, investigate the accident and clear the wreckage.

Motorists moved past a badly smashed compact sedan and a heavily damaged pick-up.

Fire Chief Dick Taylor said two people were sent to the hospital.

"The lady driving this car was complaining of ankle and lower leg, lower extremity pain," Taylor says. "So, paramedics had to work quite gingerly at first. She hit the windshield."

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital.
