GAINESVILLE - A daylong celebration is planned Saturday at the Lake Lanier Olympic venue to mark the tenth anniversary of the games.
The Olympic legacy has thrived in Gainesville, much more so than many other places in Georgia.
Connie Hagler of the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club points to the success of her group and the Lake Lanier Rowing Club as keys to that legacy, "People value what it does for their children and I think that's why it continues to happen."
Saturday's activities begin at 8 a.m. with the Georgia Games rowing competition, followed by a reunion of those who participated in the Lanier events and a venue open house, and Dragon Boat races and the Lanier Cup races featuring teams from the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
