Most registered Hall sex offenders living in just 3 ZIP Codes

GAINESVILLE - An updated analysis of GBI data shows that all but 92 of Hall County's registered sex offenders live in just three ZIP codes - the same three that were home to most of them a year ago.

As debate rages over whether a new Georgia law aimed at restricting where convicted sex offenders may live and work is too strict, AccessNorthGa.com decided to update an analysis done a year ago on where they are living in the Gainesville area.

The analysis found that 114 of them are in Zip Code 30501 (the area in and around Gainesville), followed by 45 in 30506 (the North Hall area), and 35 in the 30507 Zip Code (East and South Hall). Last March, the same three Zip Codes showed up as home to most of the registered sex offenders living in Hall County.

Then comes 30542, 20; 30504, 19; 39566, 15; 30543, 8; 30564, 5, four each in 30518 and 30554; three each in 30517, 30554, 30503 and 30527; two in 30519; and, one each in 30548, 30534, 30096, 0043, 30093, and, 30510.

The numbers are from the GBI Web site, as of July 3 and authorities say they change frequently. A year ago, during the first AccessNorthGa.com analysis, 144 total convicted sex offenders were registered in Hall County.

A federal judge is to hold a hearing next Tuesday on whether to permanently enjoin the state from prohibiting convicted sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school bus stop.

The GBI sex offender registry began in 1998 and includes the names, addresses and usually photos of about 9,600 offenders.
