Police: Driver injured while fleeing accident

GAINESVILLE - A traffic accident in west Gainesville early Monday turned into much more when one of the drivers left the scene, according to police.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Shawn Welsh says all of this unfolded about midnight after police got a call about a wreck at Browns Bridge Road and Pearl Nix Parkway.

While en route , Sgt. Welsh says officers learned one of the vehicles had left the scene headed west on Browns Bridge. But the driver didn't get far.

Sgt. Welsh says the car went out of control at Browns Bridge and Spring roads, striking four vehicles at J A Auto Sales.

Earlier Monday, some five hours after the crash, the driver was still undergoing treatment at the medical center.
