'Kids for Water Conservation' get recognition

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Hall County's "Kids for Water Conservation" got a commendation in a proclamation presented by County Commission Billy Powell Thursday night.

In a joint effort with the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, the youngsters produced a series of public service announcements to be shown on Gainesville area media web sites including AccessNorthGa.com. and in local schools

The P.S.A.'s will also be available to area business and industry to educate and train employees on the importance of water conservation.

The youngsters produced the announcements themselves and Gainesville Schools Assistant Superintendent Dave Shumake said they are an important public relations tool.

"I think you reminding parents about saving water and saving our valuable resources will be very valuable to this community," Shumake said.

The students, along with water experts and community leaders, are set to meet at the Chamber of Commerce November 13th for a 'water summit' to result in a mission statement.

That one page statement goes out to an estimated 31,000 students in Gainesville and Hall County schools.
