Learning and having fun during National Family Week in Gainesville

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville area families and children Sunday learned where to turn for help and also have a good time during National Family Week at the Warren Featherbone Center.

Gainesville's Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK) hosted community service groups including the YMCA, Gainesville Police and Safe Kids for an afternoon of information and fun according to INK museum Curator Chrissy Derrer.

"We want to make the community aware of the resources that are available," Derrer said. "When you're a family in need you never know when that might happen; when you're facing a crisis it can be overwhelming and you don't know where to turn."
"We want to make sure that they know and that they're prepared before that happens."

Derrer added the fun came in with magic shows, story telling, hat making and face painting as well as the safety and health displays.

Nine year old Emily Hooper said that's what the local National Family Week celebration was all about.

"It's to spend time with their families and let the kids' imaginations flow," she said.
