Gainesville School Board considers system athletic director

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville School Board members instructed Superintendent Steve Ballowe Monday night to give them a job description for a system wide athletic director.

Board member David Syfan said the Board got a request from the Gainesville Athletic Club to create the position.

Syfan said the new director would have overall responsibility for athletics in all grades at all schools in the system.

"The director would be a community leader to help foster athletics within the system," Syfan said. The Board is looking at it and having discussions on it."

"You've got to let it be known in December/January because most people get contracts around February/March," Syfan said.

Syfan said the Board expects to fill the new post sometime next year.
