Meeting on jail property cancelled

GAINESVILLE - A meeting planned next week to discuss the future of the Midtown jail property in Gainesville has been cancelled.

The Hall County Commission and the Gainesville City Council had been scheduled to meet Monday morning but it has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

The county has proposed using the site, which was vacated a couple of weeks ago when a new jail opened, as a privately-run prison. City officials, however, have balked at that idea.
