Love Light Tree returns to Northeast Georgia Medical Center

GAINESVILLE - Northeast Georgia Medical Center held its annual Love Light Celebration at the Medical Center's Lanier Park Campus on White Sulphur Road once again due to continuing construction at the Medical Center Main Campus on Jesse Jewell Parkway.

A 20-foot tree lit up at Lanier Park and by remote control a 30 foot spruce Love Light tree came to life with holiday lights atop the Outpatient Services building on the Main Campus.

The Love Light Tree celebrates Love Light donations made throughout the year; the donations support the Medical Center Hospice, providing in-home nursing care for patients with a life-limiting illness.

This year's Love Light Co-chair Dr. Geoffrey Weidner said donations this year amounted to $133,000.

"It's raised $900,000 up until this year and this is the 28th year of the Love Light ceremony," Dr.Weidner said.

Doris Lindsey and David Head of Gainesville donated this year's Love Light tree.

The Medical Center Auxiliary dedicated the tree in memory of the late Charles R. "Chuck" Frissell, a long-time Medical Center volunteer, and to Susan Crawford and Marta Chapman.

The East Hall High School Brass Ensemble, Friendship Elementary fourth and fifth grade chorus, North Hall Middle School eighth grade ensemble, Johnson High School Chorus and soloist Stephen Greene provided holiday music with Greene singing 'O Holy Night'.

A children's ornament decorating contest was also part of the festivities. All ornaments submitted will be displayed on a giant holiday tree banner in the Lanier Park atrium.
