Flowery Branch Main Street becomes one way

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch 'Old Town' became official Wednesday by act of City Council; citizens are getting used to a one-way Main Street downtown, and that includes Mayor Diane Hirling.

Council's resolution vote creates Old Town, its historic district gateways and its Tax Allocation District for new development.

It's supported by the city's state 'T-grant' money that is changing downtown; Main Street became one way about a week ago.

"Do you know the Mayor was probably the first one to almost get a ticket," Mayor Hirling said. "She didn't know it and I went down the wrong way; I did not see the sign."

Mayor Hirling said a one-way Main Street provides more parking.

"It's going to make it easier for parking, it will give us more parking on both sides the way it's designed to go just up the street," she added.

ESTABLISHING SEWER CAPACITY

Flowery Branch City Manager Bill Andrew says that Wednesday's City Council passage of a sewer ordinance amendment assures master meter customers they would pay only for additional waste water capacity.

The amendment establishes capacity numbers for customers who may choose to redevelop their property in the city's new Tax Allocation District.

"It was never meant to establish a rate structure or amend a rate structure for master meters, I think there was some misunderstanding about that," Andrew said.

Andrew added that wastewater flow levels were meant to be generous to property owners to encourage redevelopment in the TAD.
