A plan to complete South Hall Sewer

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver Monday unveiled a plan which he said promises to complete sewer service to south Hall County.

He requested Commission support of a $78,000 study for running sewer lines to connect Union Church Road.

"We have been able to work to take our sewer all the way from Oakwood to Friendship Road and it will tie together," Oliver said.

Oliver said providing wastewater service to south Hall is a three-year goal of the Commission.

Commissioner Steve Gailey said he wants support for providing sewer to the Highway 365 Corridor in his Northeast Hall district.

ON BOARD WITH JAIL PROPERTY SALE

Chairman Tom Oliver said the Commission is 'on board' with the Midtown jail property sales agreement from Gainesville.

Last week Gainesville City Council approved a proposed $4-million purchase of the current jail property from the county in the heart of Mid-town to support redevelopment in the city's TAD (Tax Allocation District).

Chairman Oliver said he expects a yes vote Thursday from commissioners and the jail vendor is ready to sign a seven and a half year lease.

"They're going to bring about $2-million to the county coffers in doing this and the city is going to kick in $2-million and $2-million," Oliver said.

Oliver said Correctional Corporation of America from Nashville Tennessee agrees to vacate the jail property when the lease is up; the city's goal is to eventually free developing Mid-town of any jail.
