Sautee man pardoned by President Bush

By The Associated Press
WASHINGTON - Five Georgians are among the people granted pardons by President Bush.

In all, Bush pardoned 29 convicts Tuesday and reduced the prison sentence of one more in the end-of-the-year presidential tradition.

Justice Department spokesman Erik Ablin said Bush has granted 142 pardons and commuted five sentences since taking office in 2001, lagging far behind the pace set by most modern presidents.

The list was issued with little fanfare by the Office of the Pardon Attorney at the Justice Department. Bush is not expected to issue any more pardons this year.

The Georgia list includes Charles Wayne Bryant of Sautee, who was convicted in 1962 of theft of United States mail matter.

Also on the list:

*Daniel Ray Freeman of Douglas, convicted in 1963 of violation of Internal Revenue liquor laws.

*Melton Harrell of Cairo, convicted in 1976 of theft of government property and receiving stolen government property.

*Glanus Terrell Osborne of Dallas, convicted in 1990 of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

*Nancy Lynn Thompson of Bainbridge, convicted in 1997 of embezzlement by a bank employee.
