Lane shifts coming to Oakwood, Clarke-Jackson projects

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Some lanes will be shifted next week as work continues on major road projects in Oakwood and in Clarke and Jackson counties.

The Oakwood project involves the reconstruction of the Exit 16 interchange. On Tuesday, the state Department of Transportation plans a traffic shift on Mundy Mill Road between Mathis Drive and 985.

"We are ready to scoot traffic over on part of Mundy Mill Road," Teri Pope, DOT Communications Office in Gainesville said "If weather permits; Tuesday the 17th crews will shift traffic on Mundy Mill over, closer to the Gainesville State College side from Mathis Drive to I-985. We are shifting traffic over so crews can work on the lanes furthest away from Gainesville State. Two lanes will be maintained in each direction so traffic should continue to run without much delay but please pay attention in the work zone."

Meanwhile, as work continues on the widening of U.S. 129 in Clarke and Jackson counties, a lane shift is planned, also on Tuesday, between Brock Road in Jackson and Lavender Road in Clarke.

"That means we will have one lane of traffic running on each side of the median from Brock Road to Lavender Road," Pope said. "Crews still have 2-3 weeks of work to complete before opening all lanes of the project. Depending on weather we could finish by the end of April or it could be mid-May."
