GAINESVILLE - Fairview Baptist Church on Travis Drive in Gainesville is restored and ready for Easter services a month after a vandal caused extensive damage to the sanctuary.
The spray-painted walls,carpet and piano and overturned pulpit are now like new, according to Church member Allan Burnette.
"We've got our carpet replaced, we got our pews redone and we got our walls repainted; it looks a whole lot better than it did three or four weeks ago," Burnette said.
Burnette said Fairview never stopped holding its services, moving them to the Fellowship Hall until the sanctuary was restored about two weeks ago.
A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with burglary and vandalism of a place of worship.
"We just hope he gets some help, and in the process gets saved and think about what he did and maybe he won't do it again," Burnette added, estimating the restoration cost at $15,000 to $16,000.
"Now we're back to where we were before and we thank the people for all the help for little church," Burnette said.
"The Lord never let us down the whole time."
